Our Commitment to Reducing Carbon Footprint at Bridge House

At The Bridge House Hotel, sustainability is at the core of our values. We are proud of the initiatives already in place to reduce our carbon footprint and continually strive to enhance our eco-friendly practices.

Current Initiatives:

  • Energy Efficiency:

    • LED lighting has been installed throughout the hotel. We are phasing out older lighting systems and replacing them incrementally.

    • SMARTFLOW, a cutting-edge water monitoring system, has been introduced to track high and low water usage and detect leaks promptly for quick resolution.

  • Waste Reduction:

    • Biodegradable pens/pencils are used in all meeting rooms and bedrooms.
    • Fully compostable cups are provided for all takeaway hot drinks.
    • Single-use sachets for sauces will soon be replaced in our restaurants.
    • Food waste is closely monitored, and strategies are regularly reviewed to minimize it.
    • A user-friendly waste management process is in place to encourage recycling and proper disposal.

  • Bathroom Amenities:

    • Pump dispensers for body wash and shampoo have replaced single-use bottles in all bathrooms.

  • Towel Reuse Program:

    • Guests are encouraged to leave towels on the floor only if they wish for them to be laundered. This simple practice significantly reduces unnecessary towel washing. We are also working with Offaly Hospice to help raise money whilst cutting back on unnessary laundry with our " Save the clean, go green inciative".

  • Sustainable Sourcing:

    • We prioritize sourcing food locally wherever possible, reducing delivery distances and associated emissions.
    • All coffee and tea served are sustainably sourced through a Fairtrade-certified company.

  • Employee and Guest Engagement:

    • A bike-to-work scheme is available for staff to encourage cycling as a low-carbon alternative to driving.
    • Digital key card access is provided for bedrooms and meeting rooms, reducing plastic waste.
    • The shopping center in front of the hotel offers two electric car charging points for our guests’ convenience.

Green Certifications and Partnerships

  • We are actively participating in the Failte Ireland Climate Action Programme, accredited by the National Tourism Development Authority. We work with a mentor from Failte Ireland to achieve our climate goals.
  • We are ollaborating with a leading energy management company, we are conducting an extensive energy refit for our back-of-house operations.

The BH Green Team

Our BH Green Team, led by our Deputy General Manager (DGM), drives sustainability initiatives across the hotel. The team meets quarterly to review our environmental impact, brainstorm innovative ideas, and measure progress toward our sustainability goals.

At The Bridge House Hotel in Tullamore, sustainability is not just a priority—it is a responsibility we embrace wholeheartedly as we work towards a greener future.
